The Daily Halacha Moment - Birkot Hashachar
״כל השונה הלכות בכל יום - מובטח לו שהוא בן העולם הבא״ (נידה עג ע״א, מגילה כח:)
“Anyone who studies Halachot every day is guaranteed that he is destined for the world-to-come” (Megilla 28b, Niddah 73a)
Question:
What is birkot hashachar?
Answer:
Birkot HaShachar (ברכות השחר), which translates to "The Morning Blessings," are a series of berachot recited the morning prayers. These berachot express gratitude to Hashem for the renewal of life, the physical and spiritual gifts provided each day, and the ability to fulfill one's purpose.
The Gemara (Berachot 35a) highlights an apparent contradiction between two pesukim in Tehillim. One verse states that the world belongs to Hashem, while another pasuk declares that the land has been given to mankind. Chazal resolved this contradiction by explaining that although everything ultimately belongs to Hashem, once a person recites a beracha over a worldly pleasure, they are permitted to partake in it and, in a sense, acquire it.
Therefore, Chazal established a series of berachot to be recited each morning, with each blessing corresponding to a specific worldly benefit or pleasure.
