Question:
Is it mitzvah to checks one's clothing before Shabbat?
Answer:
It is a mitzvah for one to check his pockets before Shabbat in order to ensure that there are no muktzeh items in them. [1] This is especially important in a city where there is no eruv. [2]
Clothing which are used only on Shabbat, and one knows that he did not use it for any other occasion during the week, do not need to be checked on erev Shabbat. [3]
It's very common that peaple by mistake leave some muktzeh items in their clothing and without realizing they end up wearing the clothing on Shabbat not knowing what to do with the muktzeh items. It is therefore very important for one to check one's clothing before Shabbat so that one will not end up in that situation.
