The Daily Halacha Moment - Drying Clothing & Shabbat🧥
״כל השונה הלכות בכל יום - מובטח לו שהוא בן העולם הבא״ (נידה עג ע״א, מגילה כח:)
“Anyone who studies Halachot every day is guaranteed that he is destined for the world-to-come” (Megilla 28b, Niddah 73a)
Question:
What should one do if ones clothing got wet on Shabbat? How should one dry them?
Answer:
As we've mentioned in a previous Halacha Moment one may not hang up one's wet clothing on Shabbat. If a person’s clothing got wet and needs to lay them out to dry, he may lay the clothing on a chair (not next to a fire or radiator). However, one may not spread the clothing out on several chairs together, since then it is obvious that one’s intention is to leave it to dry. [1]
Similarly, One whose clothing got wet may go out into the sunlight while wearing the clothing, even though one’s intention is to dry the clothing. [2]
Furthermore, One may not place a wet garment next to a fire or a hot radiator in order for it become dry. [3]
