The Daily Halacha Moment - Shavuot & Kiddush 🍷
״כל השונה הלכות בכל יום - מובטח לו שהוא בן העולם הבא״ (נידה עג ע״א, מגילה כח:)
“Anyone who studies Halachot every day is guaranteed that he is destined for the world-to-come” (Megilla 28b, Niddah 73a)
Question:
When is the current time to recite Kiddush on Shavuot Night?
Answer:
Some poskim write that since the pasuk requires the forty-nine days of the omer to be complete, one should not recite Kiddush on Shavuot night until tzet hakochavim. Other poskim argue with this opinion, and hold that one may even recite Kiddush during the daytime. Preferably, one should be stringent and recite Kiddush only after tzet hakochavim; however, in certain parts of Europe where tzet hakochavim is very late at night, and one’s family will be greatly inconvenienced to wait until then, one may recite Kiddush during the daytime. If possible, one should at least wait until the beginning of shkiyah, or eat a Kezayit (around 27 grams according to the Sefardic custom) of bread after tzet hakochavim. Even according to some of the more stringent opinions, the above only applies to Kiddush, but if one wants to recite Arvit before tzet hakochavim, one may do so but should remember to recite Kriat Shema again after tzet Hakochavim.
