The Daily Halacha Moment - No Water Available For Morning Netilat Yadayim
״כל השונה הלכות בכל יום - מובטח לו שהוא בן העולם הבא״ (נידה עג ע״א, מגילה כח:)
“Anyone who studies Halachot every day is guaranteed that he is destined for the world-to-come” (Megilla 28b, Niddah 73a)
Question:
What should one do if one has no water to do netilat yadayim in the morning?
Answer:
If no water is available with which to wash one's hands, one should wipe his hands on the earth, or on some wood, or with a dry cloth, or with anything else that will cleanse his hands. However, instead of reciting על נטילת ידים the Ashkenazic custom is to recite על נקיות ידים regarding the cleanliness of the hands. [1] The Sefardic custom is to refrain from reciting a Berachah. [2] After cleansing one's hands in this manner, one may recite the teffilot. However, when water becomes available, one should wash one's hands in the prescribed manner as we've mentioned in a previous Halacha Moment in order to remove the impure spirit. [3]
