The Daily Halacha Moment - Repairing Clothing During 9 days 🧥
״כל השונה הלכות בכל יום - מובטח לו שהוא בן העולם הבא״ (נידה עג ע״א, מגילה כח:)
“Anyone who studies Halachot every day is guaranteed that he is destined for the world-to-come” (Megilla 28b, Niddah 73a)
Question:
May one repair clothing during the 9 days?
Answer:
One may not repair or make new clothing during the shavuah shechal bo (week which Tisha B'av falls out on), and one should try to refrain from doing so from Rosh Chodesh.
However, one whose business is to fix and fit clothing may continue until the shavua shechal Bo. [1]
A worker who is employed to fix clothing may continue to work if he will lose money by not working on these days; in fact, he may even work on Tishah B’Av itself. Such a person should try to work as discreetly as possible. [2]
Similarly, women should also refrain from knitting during this period of time. [3]
