Question:
May one walk by an area that has a video camera recording on Shabbat?
Answer:
It is permitted to walk on Shabbat in an area that is recorded by security cameras. [1] It is also permitted for one to install security cameras in a place that is dangerous, even though the cameras will be recording on Shabbat. [2]
Similarly, One should preferably disconnect any security cameras in one’s home that turn on upon someone passing by. However, if one did not disconnect the cameras before Shabbat, it is still permitted to walk around the home on Shabbat. [3] Some are stringent, one should follow one's custom.
