The Daily Halacha Moment - Stepping on Insects on Shabbat 🐛
״כל השונה הלכות בכל יום - מובטח לו שהוא בן
העולם הבא״ (נידה עג ע״א, מגילה כח:)
“Anyone who studies Halachot every day is guaranteed that he is destined for the world-to-come” (Megilla 28b, Niddah 73a)
Question:
Does one have to be careful while walking not to step on insects or bugs on Shabbat?
Answer:
Excellent question, It is prohibited to deliberately step on any insect on Shabbat, even as one is walking as normal. However, if stepping on an insect is impossible to avoid, then one may walk as one normally does, but should focus on getting to his destination, and not deliberately aim his steps on any insects or bugs. [1]
Similarly, one may take out pin-worms or other parasite that are bothering a child, even though the worms will eventually die once they are taken out. [2]
