The Daily Halacha Moment - Dangerous Animals & Tzad 🐯
״כל השונה הלכות בכל יום - מובטח לו שהוא בן העולם הבא״ (נידה עג ע״א, מגילה כח:)
“Anyone who studies Halachot every day is guaranteed that he is destined for the world-to-come” (Megilla 28b, Niddah 73a)
Question:
Does the Melachah of Tzad apply to dangerous animals?
May on trap dangerous animals on Shabbat?
Answer:
If an animal or insect can cause serious harm, even if it is not life-threatening, it is permitted to trap them on Shabbat, provided that one is trapping them with the intention to be saved from being injured by the animal or insect. [1]
However, one may not trap a snake in order to use its venom or in order to use its skin, even though the snake is dangerous. [2] That being said, one needs to be honest with himself with regards to what really is dangerous.
