Question:
What are some ways to reach 100 Berachot on Shabbat?
Answer:
Since the Amidah is shorter on Shabbat, one must find other ways to make up the requisite berachot that one is missing. One may do so by eating more fruits or snacks throughout the day, and reciting berachot upon besamim. Receiving an Aliyah for Haftarah or being chazzan is an easy way to also fill in the missing berachot.[1]
According to many opinions, one may fulfill his obligation of reciting one hundred berachot through answering amen to the berachot recited upon each Aliyah.
[2] However, one should only rely on this option if one is unable to fill in the missing berachot through other means. [3]
According to some opinions, the prayer of “Ein Keloh-enu” that is recited after Mussaf on Shabbat can be counted as part of the one hundred berachot.
[4] There are also opinions who state that one can fulfill the berachot through answering amen to the Chazarat HaShatz.
[5] However, one should initially not rely on these opinions.[6]
Similarly, one may eat dessert after reciting Birkat Hamazon in order to be able to recite more berachot. However, one should not put the food on the table until one has finished Birkat Hamazon. [7]
